Out Now: Deep Purple, Machine Head: 40th Anniversary Edition

Remember how last month we offered up a 35th anniversary reissue of Deep Purple’s Come Taste the Band and had to explain that it wasn’t actually the 35th anniversary of the album but, rather, that it had come out at that time in the UK and was only just now coming out in the US?

Okay, well, take the lesson you learned from that release and apply it to the 40th Anniversary Edition of Deep Purple’s Machine Head, a 2-disc set which has finally found Stateside release only a few months after the album’s 44th anniversary.

Hey, look, do you want to complain about its belatedness, or do you want to know about the music? Because this is only Deep Purple’s most iconic album we’re talking about.

This set takes the original 7 tracks on Machine Head, adds the non-album B-side “When a Blind Man Cries,” remasters the whole lot of them, and then isolates those tracks on Disc 1. For disc 2 they add Quad SQ Stereo versions of the entire album while also tacking on the single edit of “Smoke on the Water” and a version of “Lazy” issued as a Japanese B-side.
