Today we celebrate the birthday of the late, great keyboardist for The Doors, the legendary Ray Manzarek, but it isn’t just us folks here at Rhino HQ who are commemorating the occasion: there’s actually going to be a theatrical screening of a documentary dedicated to our man Ray, and – better yet – it could well be playing in a theater near you!

Entitled The Doors: Break On Thru – A Celebration of Ray Manzarek, the film is part-concert, part-documentary, offering up both a 2016 performance by surviving Doors members John Densmore and Robby Krieger – one which was filmed on Manzarek’s birthday, no less – in honor of their late bandmate. They’re joined on stage by a wide variety of other musicians, including Exene Cervenka and John Doe (X), Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots), Taylor Hawkins and Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters), Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule), Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), Brian Ray (Paul McCartney’s band), Andrew Watt, and more. Beyond the concert, there’s archival footage of The Doors, vintage interviews with Manzarek and Jim Morrison, rock critic Ben Fong-Torres, and new interviews with Densmore and Krieger.

Are you psyched yet? Sure you are. And if you’re so psyched that you’d actually like to try and catch it in the theater, just click right here to find out if it’s playing in your area.

Happy birthday, Ray, wherever you are!
