Happy 10th: Larry the Cable Guy, MORNING CONSTITUTIONS

10 years ago today, Larry the Cable Guy released his sixth studio album, an LP which took him to the top of Billboard’s Comedy Albums chart for the fourth time in his career.

Recorded at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota, MORNING CONSTITUTIONS featured a cover which – whether intentionally or incidentally – found Larry basically telling those who dismissed his comedy as low-brow, “I don’t really care what you think, because my fans like what I do.” Or maybe that’s not what he intended at all, but given that he’s sitting on a toilet with his pants around his ankles and has a bear sitting next to him, it’s a hunch that we’re pretty comfortable with.

Then again, since they’re clearly supposed to be outside in the cover art, it could just be playing off of the classic question about something bears do in the woods.

Actually, upon further reflection, we’re talking about an album where Larry’s opening line involves him telling the assembled masses, “I ain't been this excited since I found a quarter in my poop, I'll tell ya what,” so either way, there was clearly a statement being made here, and it’s that he didn’t care what his critics had to say, he only cared about continuing to deliver the material that made his audiences roar with laughter.

On that level, MORNING CONSTITUTIONS was a complete and total success.
